Here’s a full roundup of some of my favorite budget longwear Drugstore Makeup Products to create a flawless base! Trying new makeup can be intimidating– so many things can go wrong! It could be the wrong shade, doesn’t wear well, causes sensitivity or breakouts, or the scent is just unbearable. It’s hard when you are working under a tight budget to want to experiment because it could be a huge fail and that new bottle of makeup just ends up in a trash bin. Been there, done that. So to help take the mystery out of the makeup aisle next time you’re in the grocery store, here’s my go-to primer, foundations, concealer, and loose powders that are worth skipping the more expensive brands.
Primer:
Revlon Photoready Perfecting Primer : I love how silky smooth this makes your face feel! It’s a great base for building an even and long lasting foundation. It’s the best I’ve tried for minimizing pores- I struggle with covering up my larger pores so if you have another product you swear by, leave me a comment and i’ll try it out!
Foundation
Covergirl Outlast stay fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation: this is a good buildable medium to full coverage foundation.. I know it says it has the primer, concealer and foundation all in 1, but since I like a more full coverage look, so I use it just as a foundation. And it holds up against the nanny test- after a long day of chasing two toddlers, it lasts pretty well. The only place it fades on me is around my chin and the tip of my nose a bit (probably from kissing their sweet chubby cheeks too much). I love the matte finish. I don’t have too much shine at the end of the day either- even after working out!
Revlong ColorStay Makeup for combo/oily skin: depending on how tan I am, I have a darker shade of this that i’ll mix in with my Covergirl Outlast… I self tan so my skin tone is constantly changing! It’s a pretty good full coverage foundation, but I don’t like this quite as much as the Covergirl one. It doesn’t pass the nanny test- it’s not as long lasting and it has a slight greasy feeling, even when you first put it on.
Concealer
I feel like I’ve tried SO many drugstore concealers and I haven’t been too impressed. I get a lot of creases under my eye with this NYX High Definition Photo Concealer wand, even when I set it really well with some loose powder. This was really disappointing because people have raved about it. The Revlon Colorstay Concealer did not pass the picture flash test. I thought I looked great at a Christmas event, only to look through pictures afterwards and my under eye was just glaring/reflecting really poorly. not a great look! Finally, I’v settled on this one:
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind : I have it in “Fair” which seems a little too pink for my skin tone, so I’m going to give it another try in a different shade, but other than that I love the coverage and how it blends. No under eye crease issues with this concealer! This is the first time in forever that i’ll actually have bought the same concealer two time in a row. So far, it’s a winner for me.
Loose Powder
There is something about the fresh, subtle smell of the Covergirl professional loose powder that I’ve loved since I first started wearing makeup… I use a large brush to swirl some on my face after I’ve put on my primer, foundation, concealer, and cream contour to help set everything. Because the foundations are more full coverage, they can feel a bit sticky for a a while if you don’t use a powder to set it.
I really like to use the Maybelline FaceStudio Master Fix Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder to set/bake the area under my eyes after I put my concealer on. This is a really fine powder, and I find that it keeps me looking matte throughout the day and helps to blur some of my pores even more.
Well, that’s all I have for you for now… If you’re looking to try some new makeup, I hope this was helpful! More drugstore beauty product roundups to come!
