At home manicures and pedicures have taken a back seat as of late. Don’t even get me started on actually making it out to a salon to get them done! Can any other moms, relate? It seems that there are just more important ways to fill my time. However, when I do make the time to spruce up my nails, I want them to last a long time! I can’t believe that I haven’t shared about my at home manicure and pedicure routine before now!
I got this gel/shellac nail kit a couple years ago, and I’ve been shocked at how well it works.
Especially since the cost of the whole kit is less than one trip to the nail salon.
A gel manicure is a long lasting nail polish that is cured under an LED light. There’s no need to worry about drying time which is a huge bonus for me! I’m always smudging my nails with traditional nail polish. The directions are pretty simple and straightforward.
It does take a little bit of time for all the layers to cure in the machine, especially if you’re doing it on your own. (Since I got it two years ago, it looks like the LED light design has changed slightly, and is now 2X faster. Might be time for me to update! My original one has lasted all this time though with no issues.)
It typically lasts me a good 7-10 days, that’s with me cleaning and doing dishes daily. I’m super hard on my hands/nails, so it doesn’t last the “up to 2 weeks” like it claims. As a pedicure it lasts FOREVER.
I’ve linked the kit below which has everything you need to start out! The products that come with the LED light are sample size though, so eventually you’ll need to restock for full size products.
Here’s what you need for an at home gel manicure:
- LED light
- cleanser (for prep and after your done)
- base coat
- color coat
- top coat
- remover- I don’t typically use this. I just wait until they peel off… That’s probably bad for your nails, but you’ll notice after a while they’ll start to naturally lift from your nail and come off easily
I really like Sally Hansen’s line of gel nail products. I linked those for you as well below. You know how I love my budget friendly beauty products! These a home manicures have been a definite time and money saver for me. Let me know if you try it out! I’d love to hear how you like it!
